She did the Secretary of State job, she was a G, she held it down, she didn’t cry.

Ice-T, on why Hillary Clinton will be the first female president

The best part about this story is that the Huffington Post (via the AP) decided to explain to us what a “G” is. In case you didn’t know — it’s “the hip-hop term for gangster (a positive thing)”.

(via newsweek)

I love Ice-T as much as the next girl, but ‘she didn’t cry?’ Really, Ice? Glad you’re ready for a female president but could you check the sexism, pls?

Will the second part of the California Dream Act become law? ›

One of two measures that make up what’s referred to as the California Dream Act was released from suspense in a state Senate committee today, and is expected to go to the Senate floor next week for a vote. But unlike AB 130, a companion bill that was recently signed into law, the bill known as AB 131 faces slimmer odds of success.

Both measures aim to make it easier for undocumented college students to pay tuition. AB 130 allowed these students access to previously unavailable privately funded scholarships. AB 131 would grant them access to publicly funded financial aid, the same kind of financial aid now available to students who are U.S. citizens and legal residents. Although undocumented students can qualify for in-state tuition if they meet state residency requirements, they are still barred from public financial aid programs, such as Cal Grants.

[…] Unlike the federal Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, neither of the California bills proposes a path to legal status.

World’s largest psychology group endorses marriage equality ›

civillyunioned:

The American Psychological Association (APA) policy-making panel voted 157-0 to approve a resolution to support marriage equality, citing an abundance of new studies that show that same-sex couples share the same goals as opposite-sex couples in building “stable, long-lasting and committed intimate relationships and are successful in doing so.”

The APA has historically supported full equality for the LGBT community, and Clinton Anderson, director of APA’s Office on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns, said the resolution will lend considerable weight to the national debate.

“Now as the country has really begun to have experience with gay marriage, our position is much clearer and more straightforward — that marriage equity is the policy that the country should be moving toward,” Anderson said.

I'm 19, and I'm lesbian. I've never had sex, and I feel really embarrassed about it. Any words of wisdom?

Whenever you feel ready to have sex is the right time for you. I know plenty of people who didn’t have sex for the first time until they were in their early 20s. For me, the first time I had sex with a woman, I was 22. I’d slept with men but for some reason, I was really nervous about lesbian sex. I definitely don’t regret that I waited to do it until I had a partner who made me feel comfortable and loved.

As for your first time, I wouldn’t be too worried about your lack of experience. You know the basics just by knowing your own body. Plus, some people have a thing for virgins, haha. ;)

Just out of curiosity, what made you ask me (of all tumblrs) this question? :)

Gay jurist in Proposition 8 case had no legal obligation to remove himself, judge rules - latimes.com ›

A federal judge on Tuesday refused to invalidate last year’s ruling against Proposition 8, deciding the gay jurist who overturned the same-sex marriage ban had no obligation to step aside because of a possible conflict of interest.

The decision by Chief Judge James Ware of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco left the ruling by retired Judge Vaughn R. Walker in place. Walker’s decision remains on hold pending a separate appeal to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

U.S. appeals court OKs decision blocking Arizona immigration law ›

(CNN) — A federal appeals court on Monday affirmed a previous injunction of Arizona’s controversial immigration law, another setback for legislation that has drawn sharp opposition from President Barack Obama’s administration.

In its ruling, a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit sided with the U.S. Justice Department and against Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the measure known as SB 1070 into law last year.

The fact that I don’t want to dress like a woman doesn’t make me misogynist! Stop trying to tell me how I feel! I don’t feel like dressing like David Bowie either, and I love David Bowie! I certainly don’t think it would be degrading to dress like Donal Trump, but I don’t feel like that either. I think it would be degrading to dress like Lady Gaga - but not because she’s a woman.
In any case, if you investigate, I’m sure you’ll find the resistance to cross-dressing in the general male population is more motivated by homophobia than misogyny (not that homophobia is any better, but the photo doesn’t take account of it).
People want to do things or don’t want to do things for all sorts of reasons. It’s not right to point at what someone and say “You feel like this because you’re not doing this.” Fuck off.

Those are song lyrics, but okay. There is a pretty intimate relationship between misogyny and homophobia. Much of the hatred directed at gay men is focused around the stereotypical idea that they’re effeminate, as well as disgust toward gay male sex because being the “receiver” is degrading.
Aside from which, the “you” in the song is society, not men who don’t want to dress in drag. The point is that if a man wants to appear “feminine” by wearing dresses, make-up, etc, it will be frowned upon. The United States has pretty rigid ideas on what behavior and style of dress are appropriate for the sexes. As a case in point, I read this disgusting article earlier today.

(Trigger warning: trans-bigotry) J. Crew Plants the Seeds for Gender Identity | Fox News ›

stfufauxminists:

reallyfoxnews:

A recent feature in J. Crew’s online catalogue portrays designer Jenna Lyons painting her son Beckett’s toe nails hot pink. The quote accompanying the image reads, “Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.” Yeah, well, it may be fun and games now, Jenna, but at least put some money aside for psychotherapy for the kid—and maybe a little for others who’ll be affected by your “innocent” pleasure.

This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity—homogenizing males and females when the outcome of such “psychological sterilization” [my word choice] is not known.”

Dr. Keith Albow for Fox News, simultaneously embracing the heteronormative binary, hating on J Crew, discriminating against non-cisgendered people, and addressing non-heteronormative gender identities as “non-fiction.” Enjoy!

So uh, this guy’s a douchebag. Also, I put a trigger on it because the things this dude says are seriously hating on trans and non-binary folks. I figure better safe than sorry.
