UK Court denies foster child to anti-gay Pentacostal couple ›

”Significantly, the court said that while there was a right not to face discrimination on the basis on either religion or sexual orientation, equality of sexual orientation took precedence.

”This was the most decisive ruling against the idea of Christian values underpinning English law since judges ruled last year that to protect views simply because they were religious would be irrational, divisive and arbitrary.”

You go, Britain!

[California] State attorney general seeks resumption of gay marriages ›

Kamala Harris has asked that marriages resume for same sex couples while we await some final results from the Prop 8 fiasco. But the best part of this story is the following:

The president of the Family Research Council, a Washington-based advocacy group that opposes same-sex marriage, said Tuesday it suspected the government was colluding with lawyers in the Proposition 8 case.

Tony Perkins, the group’s president, pointed out that lawyers for the two California couples asked the 9th Circuit to lift its stay just a few hours after U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the administration’s new position on the federal act.

Perkins asked the government to provide records of any contact the Justice Department might have had with the attorneys.

“Even the appearance of collusion between the Department of Justice and litigants is highly damaging to the rule of law in America,” Perkins wrote.

LOL, Tony Perkins!

Wyoming Senate Kills Gay Marriage Recognition Ban Bill ›

The Wyoming Senate on Wednesday killed a bill that sought to outlaw the recognition of out-of-state gay marriages, the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reported.

Senators rejected the legislation with a narrow 16 to 14 vote, ending weeks of negotiations between the two chambers and a heated debate.

The bill won a narrow 31 to 28 victory in the House, earlier in the day.

Both chambers had previously approved differing versions of the bill.

Wednesday’s version stripped out a provision that would guarantee gay and lesbian couples in out-of-state civil unions access to Wyoming courts to get a divorce or for other disputes.

Wyoming bans gay couples from marrying but state law also recognizes any valid marriage performed outside its borders. Social conservatives worry that a legal challenge could use the loophole to legalize gay marriage.

Justice = Love: Contact information for a few of our country's Xenophobic politicians ›

Below is contact information for two of the elected officials who spoke at this protest in Yorba Linda, CA against the ICNA Relief, a hunger prevention program which just happens to be a Muslim organization. From their site: “We are a Muslim organization and feel the responsibility to help and support the needy as our religious responsibility”. If you haven’t seen the video yet, please do so now.

Congressman Ed Royce

From the video: “They call it multiculturalism, and it has paralyzed too many of our fellow citizens to make the critical judgment we need to make to prosper as a society.”

Washington office:

Washington, DC 20515

phone: (202) 225-4111

District office (recommended for letters):

No email address; just online submission form, which states they won’t respond to non-constituents.

Deborah Pauly, Villa Park CA Councilmember

City Council phone number: (714) 998-1500

From the video: “As a matter of fact I know quite a few Marines who will be very happy to help these terrorists to an early meeting in paradise.” Again, this is referring to the ICNA Relief group, which helps and raises money for women’s shelters and serves as a hunger prevention program.

As a side note: It’s disgusting beyond belief when citizens spew this vile hatred, but it’s even worse when politicians - elected officials with easy access to microphones and the ability to influence public policy - spread their Islamophobic diatribes. This is why I have provided their information.

Here’s the info for Gary Miller, the last official speaking in the video.

And Scott Walker defying a court order to open the Capitol, in keeping with the state constitution is…what exactly?

Well, that’s all well and good, Republican senators of Wisconsin. Except for the fact that you can’t send your cops to Illinois, so… ?

Indiana is doing similar things. Ugh.

Of all the jaw-on-the-floor videos taken at tea party rallies and protests and such, this is by far the most revolting I’ve seen. Like, stomach-turning, blood pressure rising revolting. Ladies and gentleman, this is the tea party at its worst.

This literally brought me to tears. These people are beyond despicable.

This is horrific. I just don’t understand this shit.

Welcome to fucking Orange County. This is the town over from mine (or at least it was until I thankfully moved out last week!). The last congressman, Gary Miller, was my congressman. Absolutely sickening. Every single elected official in this video should be fired, starting with Deborah Pauly. If one single Muslim person is harmed in Yorba Linda she should be brought up on charges. WTF is wrong with these people?

All gay-rights bills in Utah Legislature dead ›

After a last-resort effort to move an anti-discrimination bill out of the Senate rules committee failed, all gay-rights legislation in the Utah legislature is essentially dead.

Several legislators objected to the bill because they said there was no data shown to indicate a non-discrimination act was necessary. However, at the beginning of the session, Equality Utah delivered a report to each legislator that detailed discrimination in Utah based on a year-long survey. The survey found that 44 percent of gay people in Utah had been fired or denied a job because of their sexual orientation. That percentage jumped to 67 percent of transgender Utahns.

Forty-four percent of gay people and 67% of transgender people.

We need ENDA now. It is too important to keep being put on the back burner.

APNewsBreak: NH gay marriage repeal vote put off ›

CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire lawmakers won’t be voting until next year on bills to repeal the state’s law allowing gay marriage.

The House Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Thursday to hold onto two bills that would repeal the law, which has been in effect a little over a year. The action means the bills instead will come up for a vote early in next year’s session, since legislative rules do not allow committees to dispose of bills.
