The fact that I don’t want to dress like a woman doesn’t make me misogynist! Stop trying to tell me how I feel! I don’t feel like dressing like David Bowie either, and I love David Bowie! I certainly don’t think it would be degrading to dress like Donal Trump, but I don’t feel like that either. I think it would be degrading to dress like Lady Gaga - but not because she’s a woman.
In any case, if you investigate, I’m sure you’ll find the resistance to cross-dressing in the general male population is more motivated by homophobia than misogyny (not that homophobia is any better, but the photo doesn’t take account of it).
People want to do things or don’t want to do things for all sorts of reasons. It’s not right to point at what someone and say “You feel like this because you’re not doing this.” Fuck off.
Those are song lyrics, but okay. There is a pretty intimate relationship between misogyny and homophobia. Much of the hatred directed at gay men is focused around the stereotypical idea that they’re effeminate, as well as disgust toward gay male sex because being the “receiver” is degrading.
Aside from which, the “you” in the song is society, not men who don’t want to dress in drag. The point is that if a man wants to appear “feminine” by wearing dresses, make-up, etc, it will be frowned upon. The United States has pretty rigid ideas on what behavior and style of dress are appropriate for the sexes. As a case in point, I read this disgusting article earlier today.
